The first thing we should point out is that CBD does not directly affect one’s ability to lose or gain weight. Instead, it helps in a somewhat passive way by improving other aspects of your organism. For example, some recent studies suggest that CBD may boost one’s metabolism and reduce food intake, thus promoting weight loss. 

Humans have two types of fat in their body – brown and white, with the white type being the predominant one. It is responsible for storing energy and protecting your organs. On top of that, white fat is often associated with chronic illnesses such as heart disease and increased levels of blood sugar. 

On the other hand, brown fat generates heat by burning calories. People who have normal body weight tend to have more brown than white fat. It’s also important to point out that white fat can be converted into brown fat with adequate sleep and regular exercise. 

CBD may promote the conversion of white fat, but further human research is needed.

Does CBD Encourage Weight Gain? 

As some studies show, CBD can increase one’s appetite, so it’s only natural to wonder whether it can stimulate weight gain. One recent study conducted on 2409 people showed that 6.3% of them experienced increased hunger while under the influence of CBD. 

For now, it seems the results vary on an individual level, so the answer is not as conclusive as you may have expected. Some people will experience an appetite increase while some others won’t. However, an increase in appetite does not mean you’ll automatically fall victim to an increase in weight. It depends on many factors, mainly on your metabolism and eating habits. If you manage to shake off the noticeable increase in appetite, you won’t have issues with weight gain. 

As with most other claims tied to CBD, this one requires more research. While the results are somewhat inconclusive, we can assume that CBD does increase appetite but not necessarily weight gain. 

The Dos and Don’ts of CBD Oil for Weight Loss 

If you decide to give CBD oil a shot, there are a couple of things you should keep in mind. Bear in mind; these are only somewhat vague guidelines rather than hard-written rules, so feel free to apply them when necessary but don’t follow them blindly. 

  • Think About the Quality 

As CBD’s popularity grows, so does its availability. There are numerous businesses that are selling cannabis products, but not all of them are worth looking into. In fact, the majority of these businesses offer products of suspicious quality and background. Needless to say, you should always look for top-quality oils, even if they turn out to be slightly more expensive than others. It’s always good to pay a little extra just to be sure you’re getting the right thing. 

  • Don’t Mix With Other Medications

If you’re currently going through any form of therapy that requires you to take prescription drugs, it’s probably a good idea to avoid using CBD for the time being. While there is no hard empirical evidence that may suggest it’s a bad idea to mix prescription drugs and oil, some circumstantial and anecdotal evidence suggests that you shouldn’t use both at the same time. 

Naturally, you should consult your doctor or personal physician before taking any medications, including CBD oil. 

  • Don’t Expect Wonders 

This is probably one of the most common misconceptions about CBD oil. Many people expect miraculous properties and consequently end up being disappointed because they have high expectations. 

It’s important to keep your expectations at a realistic level at all times. This doesn’t only allow you to keep track of your progress in an unbiased manner, but it also prevents you from getting disappointed with the results, or lack thereof. As we’ve mentioned, the effectiveness of CBD oil depends on the individual and their metabolism rather than being universal. 

So, to sum up, until more research is conducted, we cannot claim whether CBD for weight loss is the idea you should be focusing on. As far as anecdotal evidence goes, it’s pretty clear that it can help alleviate the battle against numerous health conditions, including rapid weight gains. 

CBD does increase one’s appetite, but that doesn’t mean it stimulates weight gains. Therefore, it is safe to assume that current research does not show a clear effect of CBD oil on weight.
